Naruto: Answering All Questions about Akatsuki
As the most notorious criminal organization in the Naruto series, Akatsuki has always captured the interest of fans who seek to learn more about related information. If you don’t know what Akatsuki is, the significance of the Akatsuki ring, or who the strongest member of Akatsuki is, you definitely shouldn’t miss the following article – providing answers to all questions and information about Akatsuki in Naruto.
What is Akatsuki?
Akatsuki (which translates to “Dawn” or “Daybreak” in English) is a group of ninjas that exists outside the conventional system of villages. Over the decades, Akatsuki has taken on various forms and has been led by different individuals.
The initial concept of Akatsuki was devised by Black Zetsu as part of its plan to resurrect its mother. Akatsuki was initially founded by Yahiko during the Third Great Ninja War, along with his childhood friends Nagato and Konan. As orphaned children from the Rain Village due to war, the three of them created Akatsuki as a means to bring peace to their homeland, which was constantly embroiled in conflicts among the Five Great Nations.
To date, there have been four generations of Akatsuki with four leaders: Yahiko, Nagato, Tobi, and Shin. Although often regarded as a criminal organization, all generations of Akatsuki have sought to make the world a better place through their own methods. They often have hidden bases in remote locations around the world to facilitate their operations.
What is the significance of the Akatsuki ring?
During Nagato’s time, each member of Akatsuki was given one of the ten rings to wear on a specific finger. Besides signifying a person’s membership status, the rings seemingly play a role in sealing the tailed beasts into the Demonic Statue, indicating which finger the members should stand on in the statue.
How many members does Akatsuki have?
In the Naruto manga, the original Akatsuki team formed by Nagato consisted of the following members:
- Four unnamed members who were killed by Kakuzu
Later, Tobi joined Akatsuki and formed the Taka team, which included:
Additionally, in the anime, Akatsuki introduced another member named Juzo. Thus, throughout its active period, a total of 20 ninjas joined and became members of Akatsuki.
The ranking of the 12 strongest members of Akatsuki is as follows:
1. Pain Six Paths
Nagato created the Six Paths of Pain after being crippled in battle with Hanzo. Unable to move or act on his own, Nagato controlled six dead bodies to carry out his will.
Just a single attack from the Deva Path of Pain wiped out more than half of the Leaf Village. When confronting Pain, Naruto had to exert all his effort and luck to successfully defeat all six bodies of the Six Paths of Pain. If Nagato had the ability to fight on his own, Naruto would have likely been easily defeated.
2. Uchiha Sasuke
It can be said that Sasuke Uchiha is the second strongest ninja in the Akatsuki organization. Sasuke played a crucial role in the Fourth Great Ninja War and was the deciding factor in the Allied Shinobi Forces’ victory against Kaguya Otsutsuki.
3. Uchiha Itachi
Itachi Uchiha is considered a prodigy of the Uchiha Clan. Even from a young age, Itachi’s skills and power were recognized by everyone. It seemed that Itachi’s destiny was to become the leader of the Leaf Village, but due to Danzo’s plan to massacre the Uchiha Clan, he was forced to become a criminal.
Itachi awakened the Mangekyou Sharingan in both eyes, allowing him to use Susanoo, Amaterasu, and Tsukuyomi.
4. Uchiha Obito
During the Third Great Ninja War, Obito sacrificed his life to save Kakashi and Rin. When everyone thought Obito was dead, his appearance in Akatsuki surprised everyone. Obito was saved and revived by Madara and joined Akatsuki to help fulfill Madara’s goals.
Like Itachi, Obito possesses the Mangekyou Sharingan and a unique ability called Kamui. With Kamui, Obito can send parts of his body or other objects to the Kamui dimension, making them intangible and allowing attacks to pass through him. Obito also knows the forbidden techniques of the Uchiha Clan like Izanagi, giving him unpredictable combat abilities.
Konan is one of the three orphaned children of the Hidden Rain Village whom Jiraiya adopted and trained. After Yahiko’s death, Konan took care of Nagato. She is a very strong ninja, and her ninjutsu techniques resemble the art of origami from Japan.
Furthermore, she is a sharp and intelligent person. Konan was the one who found a way to counter Obito’s time-space ninjutsu. She could overpower Obito in battle, and Obito could only survive by using the forbidden technique Izanagi when fighting Konan.
Kisame is one of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist, renowned for his sword Samehada, which can absorb chakra. After leaving the village and becoming a rogue ninja, Kisame became Itachi’s partner in Akatsuki.
Kisame has an astonishing chakra reserve, earning him the nickname “Tailless Tailed Beast.” He can easily overpower and subdue some Jinchuriki.
Orochimaru is a feared criminal whose mere presence instills fear in people’s minds. He became a rogue ninja after Hiruzen discovered his inhumane experiments.
Previously, Orochimaru was one of the legendary Sannin. Orochimaru has knowledge of almost every type of ninjutsu, and as a result, he found a way to achieve immortality.
Gaining fame during the Third Great Ninja War, Sasori, also known as Sasori of the Red Sand, instilled fear in many opponents he faced. He is a master of puppetry and can turn humans into puppets to control them.
Kakuzu is Hidan’s partner and the second oldest member of Akatsuki. Before leaving the Hidden Water Village, he stole a scroll that allows him to steal the hearts of other ninjas, thereby extending his own life.
In the battle against Shikamaru and Kakashi’s team, Kakuzu possesses five hearts, and all the hearts need to be destroyed to defeat him. Kakashi destroys the first heart with his Chidori, the second heart is accidentally destroyed by Hidan, and Naruto destroys the remaining hearts with his Rasenshuriken.
10. Uchiha Shin
Uchiha Shin is one of Orochimaru’s experimental subjects. He was obsessed with Itachi Uchiha and decided to create a new Akatsuki on his own. Shin believes that peace is the greatest obstacle to the evolution of humanity.
As a powerful warrior, Shin is equipped with the Mangekyou Sharingan and can control tools with unique seals on them. Additionally, he has the ability to use medical ninjutsu to heal wounds after battles.
Deidara is the youngest member of Akatsuki. Although initially reluctant to join Akatsuki, he was forced to join the organization after being defeated by Itachi.
Deidara is skilled in Explosive Style jutsu and uses his special clay to create various shapes and forms. He also found a way to overcome the illusions of the Sharingan. However, alongside his strengths, his impulsive nature has often put him in dangerous situations.
Hidan is a rogue ninja from the Hidden Steam Village. After joining Akatsuki, he was paired with Kakuzu. Kisame refers to the two of them as the Zombie duo because they are virtually unkillable.
Hidan is immortal and uses his opponents’ blood to inflict pain and ultimately kill them. His immortality makes it challenging to confront him. However, Hidan fails to fully exploit his immortality and is ultimately defeated by Shikamaru Nara.
The most exciting battles of Akatsuki include those involving Sasori, Kakuzu, Uchiha Shin, Deidara, and Hidan:
Naruto Vs. Akatsuki Pain (Naruto Shippuden episodes 163-169)
Sasuke Vs. Itachi (Naruto Shippuden episodes 135-138)
Pain Vs. Jiraiya (Naruto Shippuden episodes 129-132)
Team Asuma and Team Kakashi Vs. Hidan and Kakuzu (Naruto Shippuden episode 84)
Kakashi Vs. Obito (Naruto Shippuden episode 375)
Gai Vs. Kisame (Naruto Shippuden episode 250)
Sasori Vs. Chiyo And Sakura (Naruto Shippuden episodes 19-27)
These are some interesting battles involving Akatsuki and its members. While Akatsuki is no longer a threat to the characters in Naruto as most of its members have died, two of the longest-serving and most loyal members of Akatsuki are still alive. They are Black Zetsu, who is attempting to revive an ancient sealed creature, and Hidan, an immortal member of Akatsuki.
In Boruto, we learn about Shin, Orochimaru’s experiment, who carries the will of Akatsuki and seeks to revive the organization through his clones. However, he is quickly defeated by one of the clones. The possibility of Akatsuki regrouping and reestablishing itself remains uncertain. Will there be any surprises in Boruto?
