JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is a Japanese anime/manga created by the artist Hirohiko Araki and published by Shueisha. The series consists of multiple parts, each featuring a different main character but all bearing the nickname Jojo. The series is known for its unique art style and distinctive storyline, incorporating supernatural and bizarre elements.
The first chapter of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure was published on January 1, 1987, in Weekly Shonen Jump issues 1 and 2. In 2005, it was transferred to the seinen manga magazine Ultra Jump, published monthly. The current series is divided into 8 parts:
Part I:
Phantom Blood (1987-1988) – The main character of this part is Jonathan Joestar. The story revolves around the peculiar relationship between him and his foster brother Dio Brando in 19th-century England. Hamon (Ripple) is introduced as a form of martial arts utilizing the energy of the sun.
Part II:
Battle Tendency (1988-1989) – Jonathan’s grandson, Joseph Joestar, takes center stage. The story takes place in the late 1930s, where Joseph fights against the Pillar Men, members of an ancient vampire-like race.
Part III:
Stardust Crusaders (1989-1992) – This part’s story occurs in 1989 and focuses on Jotaro Kujo, the grandson of Joseph Joestar, and his journey around the world to find the still-living Dio Brando. This part also introduces “Stands” – manifestations of their owners’ spiritual powers. It is also the last part where Hamon is used.
Part IV:
Diamond Is Unbreakable (1992-1996) – The main character of this part is Josuke Higashikata, the illegitimate son of Joseph Joestar. The story revolves around his adventures with his friends in the town of Morioh, Japan. The events take place in 1999.
Part V:
Vento Aureo (1996-1999) – The story is set in Italy in 2001. The main character is Giorno Giovanna, Dio Brando’s son, who aims to become a gangster and joins Passione, a Mafia organization that utilizes Stands, led by a mysterious boss.
Part VI:
Stone Ocean (2000-2003) – The story follows Jolyne Cujoh, the daughter of Jotaro Kujo, who is imprisoned in the Green Dolphin Street prison in Florida, USA, for a murder she didn’t commit. This part takes place in 2011.
Part VII:
Steel Ball Run (2004-2011) – It takes place in an alternate timeline in 1890 in the United States. The story revolves around Johnny Joestar, his ally Gyro Zeppeli, and their race across America called the Steel Ball Run.
Part VIII:
JoJolion (2011-Ongoing) – It occurs in 2012, in the same universe as Steel Ball Run. The town of Morioh has been devastated by an earthquake and the TÅhoku tsunami that occurred in 2011. The main character of this part is Josuke Higashikata (not related to the main character of Part IV), who is found buried alive with half of his body underground and suffering from amnesia.
